There are a wide variety of recreational activities for Shenandoah Valley visitors to enjoy while visiting this part of Virginia. The main "star of the show" is undoubtedly the spectacular natural treasure known as the Shenandoah National Park. This stunning region of the Blue Ridge Mountains has a rich history and today offers a host of recreational excitement for Shenandoah Valley vacationers to enjoy.

While the Shenadoah National Park is the main draw to this part of the country, it is only the beginning of the recreational attractions made available to toursits of the greater Shenandoah Valley area. In addition to the all-natural splendor of the Appalachian park territory itself, the Shenandoah Valley area also offers many historic and modern "man-made" attractions for Virginia visitors to enjoy. The following is a list of just some of the many popular vacation attractions that are located in and around the Shenandoah Valley area.

The Willow Grove Mill:
The Willow Grove Mill at Old Mundellsville is typical of flour mills found in this area in the period between the late 1800's and early 1900's. There was originally a grist mill and a saw mil at the locationl. The site is now known as Willow Grove Mill. The product produced at the Mill at the height of its history was flour- produced at the Mill from approximately 1885 to 1943. This location is a great vacation attraction for the whole family. It’ll give you a hands on sense of the history of the Shenandoah Valley area.

The Luray Caverns:
Come and experience America's largest and most popular East Coast caverns. The Luray Caverns are a U.S. Natural Landmark noted for the diverse variety of formations and all natural color. From well-lighted, paved walkways explore cathedral sized rooms with ceilings 10 stories high filled with towering stone columns and crystal-clear pools. Also, hear the unusual and echoic sounds of the world's only “Stalacpipe” Organ.

In addition at Luray Caverns, you can come and enjoy the history of the United States in an exhibit featuring nearly 150 items relating to the transportation industry; including cars, carriages, coaches and costumes from the early 18th century. This exhibit will make you feel you’ve stepped back in time and, along with the Caverns themselves, is a great experience for the whole family to enjoy.

The Hamburg Country Store:
Another site that’ll definitely take you on a time travel trip is the Hamburg Country Store. This refurbished and fully restored site will help your family experience retails shopping as it existed in the middle part of the 20th century- when all your shopping in Page County was primarily done in one location. The store was established in the early part of the century and grew as the community grew. The Hamburg Country Store is open on Saturdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day from 10:00-4:00 or by appointment.

The Massanutten School:
This historic school was used from the latter part of the 19th century until 1937. This site is a fully restored, one-room school. Inside the tiny building are sixteen original double desks, an original cast iron stove; a handmade teacher's desk and chair; a flag pole from the era of the Civil War, and the original school house bell. This is a great place for the family to see how life for children in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia over a century ago.
